oI love collaborating, and was really excited when the 1st/2nd Grade Teachers asked me if I would be willing to help with some props with their upcoming skit regarding their research on the history of Willowwind.
The project was to make 4 large banners with words. I talked to the students about what acrylic paint, gesso, and canvas was. Then, after we learned about our materials, I explained to them the importance of balancing composition, creativity, and legibility of letters when making a sign. I taught the students how to do a sketch for an underpainting, as well as using light colors next to dark colors in order to make colors 'pop-out' more.
I was beyond impressed how responsible and focused the kids were. As a reward, I allowed them to paint their own design on their own 12x16" stretched canvas during the last week of the block. Soooooo many awesome paintings!!!
