K-2 started off their 2nd block with Ceramics & Pottery.
We reviewed what earthenware ("earth clay") and how to use it properly. We talked about keeping the right amount of moisture in the clay while working with it.
Kindergartners have learned about the pinching hand-building technique while making pinch pots. We will cover coiling and slab-building next.
First & Second graders had a review on the three hand-building techniques in class. We started the year off making shells, coral, and other sea creatures for the ocean habitat installation project the 1st/2nd graders are doing. Can't wait to get those fired and into the project room.
I plan to look at a variety of Native American pottery and incorporate a project or two revolving around it.
As a reminder, do not wear anything of value to Art Class MWF. Also, working with clay dries out your hands -- you may want to apply lotion to your child(ren)'s hands when they get home. Please email me with any questions.
