Third - Sixth graders dove right into acrylic painting. We reviewed the properties of acrylic paint, how it works, and how we can use paint to express our ideas. I reviewed underpainting, Value, and a snuck in a quick history snippet by using the color Venetian Red for our underpainting washes.
All students seem to be very focused on their work, as we have the opportunity to possible "mural" the Wolves' classroom, as well as the Music room. There are dull gray insulation panels [?] hung across the wall of both rooms, and after talking with both Ms. Rachel and Ms. Katherine -- we feel we could adhere a fabric to them and add some energy with a mural.
We are two weeks into class, and we will finish our 12 x 12" canvas paintings tomorrow. Then it is planning and painting the mural -- which will be no easy task. Collaboration and execution of a successful large-scale art piece will take some planning and constructive criticism. But, the kiddos are up for the task, and can't wait to show you all their finished canvas works. Very impressed.
Next block will be executing the mural. As a reminder, do not wear anything of value to Art class on MWF.
